Tech Round-up for 8/6/13

Here are some of the technology stories that caught our eye today:

An increase in online video is causing network providers and hardware and software companies to upgrade networks, according to Matt Hamblen of Network World. Juniper estimates Instagram video users are sending 956 million MB a month.

Citrix’s GoToAssist was ranked the global market share leader in remote support solutions by IDC. This is GoToAssist’s fifth year in a row as the top remote support solution. The remote support market grew 16% over last year, with Citrix outpacing its competitors.

A security researcher used JavaScript to build a botnet-powered file storage system, which could be injected in users’ web browsers without their knowledge. The researcher plans to release the code later this week.

Sanjay Poonen was named the new executive vice president and general manager of VMware’s End-User Computing business unit today. Poonen comes to VMware from SAP AG, where he held executive roles in development and sales.

Juniper is expanding its Partner Advantage Program by creating Juniper Partner Advantage Services. This includes Partner Support Services, with new course offerings and access to advanced support engineers, and Partner Professional Services, for promoting partnerships.
