Here are some of the technology stories that caught our eye today:

Users with Yahoo accounts who haven’t signed in to the service in a year will lose their Yahoo IDs at 11:59 p.m. on July 14. Those IDs will become available for others to use. The company says they will be using a process to safeguard old user information.

Forrester Research positioned EMC’s Syncplicity as a “Leader” in “The Forrester Wave: File Sync and Share Platforms, Q3 2013.” Syncplicity received the highest possible score in the security model, administration, and mobile strategy categories.

EMC is acquiring ScaleIO, makers of flash storage management software. ScaleIO will be folded into EMC’s XtremSW software and combine the software with PCIe flash cards to provide storage for private clouds and service providers.

Microsoft responded to allegations in the Guardian yesterday that it helped the NSA access user data from, SkyDrive, and Skype.
