Tech Round-up for 8/20/13

Here are some of the technology stories that caught our eye today:

Rackspace will be adding VMware vCenter Servers, which will allow the cloud provider to support single-tenant vCenter Servers for hybrid clouds. The hosted VMware environment will mirror a customer’s data center and have the same vCenter tools.

Riverbed released a new appliance that integrates the Cascade and OPNET product families. The appliance combines application-aware network performance management and application performance management.

Microsoft re-released a patch for Active Directory Federation Services that had to be pulled due to a bug last week. The patch addresses a security vulnerability in the AD FS service account.

HP is now a member of Nvidia’s GRID alliance for GPU virtualization, joining Dell, IBM, and Cisco. HP is adding Nvidia graphics boards to its ProLiant Gen8 WS460c blade server.

Dr. Phyllis Schneck, McAfee’s public sector CTO and vice president, was appointed to Deputy Undersecretary for Cyber Security for the National Protection and Programs Directorate, under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
