Tech Round-up for 8/9/13

Here are some of the technology stories that caught our eye today:

Microsoft published a Patch Tuesday Advance Notification for August, detailing the updates that will be coming next week. Eight critical security bulletins will be released, addressing vulnerabilities in Windows, Internet Explorer, and Exchange.

A security researcher assembled a device that was able to read information his iPhone sent over open WiFi. CreepyDOL was able to read the sites and services he accessed, his name, and his MAC address. It can also read identifiable data over secure WiFi and VPN.

A survey from the Uptime Institute revealed that 17 percent of companies are using public clouds, up 7 percent over last year. 63 percent of SaaS vendors, cloud providers, and data center providers also reported budget increases greater than 10 percent over last year’s budget.

A survey from Semper Secure revealed that cybersecurity professionals average a salary of $116,000, nearly three times more than the national median income of full-time workers.
