Every month Gotham holds Gotham Jeans Day, an internal fundraiser for charities selected from employee suggestions. Past recipients have included Operation Smile and the Wounded Warrior Project. Our chosen charities for December were the American Red Cross to assist with Hurricane Sandy relief and Children’s and Family Services.

The Red Cross continues to focus on reaching as many people as possible who need our help. Getting supplies and meals and water into affected areas is the top priority. Since the beginning of the Sandy relief effort:

  • Nearly 9,000 Red Cross workers have been deployed from all 50 states to operations from North Carolina to Rhode Island, with the majority still in Greater New York and throughout New Jersey.
  • More than 6 million meals and snacks have been served.
  • The Red Cross has distributed more than 2 million relief items such as clean-up kits and hygiene kits.

What this organization does best is help local people, one by one. Each year, thousands of people turn to Children's Aid and Family Services for help in improving their lives in some way. Each year, thousands of people are helped by the agency. Whether it is working to find a child an adoptive family, providing life skills counseling, presenting educational workshops, or coaching people to nurture healthier babies, Children's Aid and Family Services is changing lives and building futures.
